Biographical Information[edit]

Ayaka Deguchi has won three world titles with the Japanese women's national team through 2018.

Deguchi debuted for Japan in the 2012 Women's Baseball World Cup. In her first game, she pinch-hit for Yuki Kawabata and singled off Amber Dammers of the Netherlands and remained in at short. She was Japan's main shortstop the rest of the way, batting .357/.526/.357 with seven runs and five walks in seven games, fielding .950. She was named the All-World shortstop, beating out players like Bronwyn Gell and Bradi Wall. [1] She moved to 2B in the 2014 Women's Baseball World Cup, with Miki Atsugase taking over at short. She hit .545/.667/.545 with nine runs in six games, fielding .917. She tied Yu-Ying Hsieh for second in the Cup in runs, two behind Chu-Yu Pan. She was 4th in average and 4th in OBP (between Shae Lillywhite and Atsugase). Lillywhite was named the All-Star at second. In the title game, she made a diving stop on a grounder by Tamara Holmes to start a double play to stifle a US threat. [2]

She joined the Japanese Women's Baseball League in 2015, hitting .196/.262/.259 only for the Kyoto Flora and Saitama Astraia. In 2016, she batted .333/.361/.369 for Saitama. [3] She played for HanaMaui, outside the JWBL, from 2017-2019. [4] She returned to the national team for the 2018 Women's Baseball World Cup. Mostly playing short, she hit .421/.560/.474 with eight runs in nine games, fielding perfectly in 15 chances as Japan won another title. She tied for 10th in runs. She did not make the All-Star team as Adrix Paradizo was picked at SS. [5]
