Biographical Information[edit]

August Mattsson has played in the Elitserien and for the Swedish national team.

Mattsson debuted with the Leksand Lumberjacks in 2017. In the 2017 Federations Cup, he walked six and allowed three runs (two earned) in four innings. [1] In that year's Elitserien, he was 1 for 8 with a run and allowed two runs in one inning. [2] During 2018, the 17-year-old gave up three unearned runs in 4 2/3 IP as Leksand won the title. [3] During the 2019 Federations Cup, he allowed seven runs in five innings in a loss to Pavao Karin and Olimpija Karlovac. [4] In that year's Elitserien, he hit .232/.295/.267 and was 0-4 with a 9.18 ERA, the highest of any Elitserien qualifier, over a point higher than Jesse Bové, the next player. He tied for 4th in the league in losses. [5]

For the 2020 Lumberjacks, he was at .244/.306/.244 and had a 0-2, 7.41 record. [6] In the 2021 Elitserien, he produced at a .240/.304/.360 clip and was 2-1 despite a 10.01 ERA and .341 opponent average for the champion Leksand club. [7] Despite a rough season, he made Sweden's team for the 2021 European Championship. His lone pitching assignment was a tough one, facing the champion Dutch national team. He relieved Erik Marqvardsen in the second with a 4-0 deficit. He retired Calten Daal and former major leaguer Roger Bernadina then things went south as Ray-Patrick Didder homered, Denzel Richardson and Sharlon Schoop both singled and Dashenko Ricardo blasted a three-run shot before Junior Martina grounded out. After Sweden closed it to 8-4 in the top of the third, he began the bottom of the inning by retiring John Polonius. Julian Rip reached on an error, Daal singled and Bernadina's sacrifice fly made it 9-4 before Didder flew out. In the 4th, he was relieved by Sam Börjes. He also took the field one game, replacing Per Sjörs at 1B in a loss to Germany. He struck out against Enorbel Márquez and Daniel Mendelsohn. [8]
