Arizona Winter League
The Arizona Winter League was an independent winter league that takes place in Yuma, AZ. The league, which was affiliated with the Golden Baseball League, has its games hosted at Yuma's Desert Sun Stadium and its surrounding fields. The league debuted in 2007, and has seen three of its alumni from that season reach the Major Leagues (through 2009), with Daniel Nava, Sergio Romo pitching for the Giants and Scott Richmond for the Blue Jays. The league had added intrigue during its 2010 season with teenage knuckleballer Eri Yoshida, who became the first professional female player in her native Japan the previous season, participating in hopes of drawing interest from American teams.
