Biographical Information[edit]

Argenis Cortes pitched in the minors leagues and the CPBL.

Cortes began his professional career with the Chicago White Sox, and he had a 3.86 ERA in 3 games for the GCL White Sox in 1985. He went 4-12 with a 5.72 ERA for the Appleton Foxes in 1986 (tying for 4th in the Midwest League in losses), and he was 1-5 with a 5.97 ERA for the Daytona Beach Admirals in 1987. Cortes improved to 3-6 with a 2.99 ERA for the South Bend White Sox in 1988, and he had a 1-1 record with a 4.56 ERA for the Tampa White Sox.

In 1989, Cortes went 6-2 in 23 appearances (9 starts) for the Sarasota White Sox, and his ERA was 2.72. He then had a 6.55 ERA in 8 games for the Birmingham Barons in 1990, and he went 8-8 with a 4.31 ERA for the Barons in 1991. Cortes also played 5 games in Sarasota in 1991, and his ERA was 2.09. His 10 wins that summer tied Wilson Álvarez for 7th in the White Sox farm chain. He was 3-3 with a 5.05 ERA for the 1994 Tigres Capitalinos in Mexico.

Cortes then played in the Venezuela League, and the Mercuries Tigers of Taiwan signed him in 1995. Cortes had a 5.09 ERA in 11 games, then he was released and returned to Venezuela. He joined the Algodoneros de Union Laguna in 1999, and he was 9-6 with a 4.18 ERA in 53 games (tying Claudio Moreno for 10th in appearances in the Mexican League). He recorded a 5.21 ERA in 11 games for the Torreon Algodoneros in 2000, and he also went 6-8 with a 4.26 ERA for the Reynosa Broncos. Cortes was 2-4 with a 4.77 ERA for the Broncos in 2001, and he announced his retirement in 2004.
