Biographical Information

When asked who the toughest pitcher he faced, Tony Guiliani wrote:

"I was the catcher for the St. Louis Browns when Bob Feller pitched his first major league game in 1936 for the Cleveland Indians - [he] K.O.'d 15. I had 1 for 4. I beat him later in the season with a 2 for 3. Drove in tying run and scored the winning run in xtra innings. Regards, A.G.

P.S. He was one of the best of our era."

After his playing career, Giuliani became a scout for the Washington Senators and was still a scout for the Minnesota Twins until 1987. He signed John Castino, Jim Eisenreich, Kent Hrbek, Tim Laudner, and J.T. Bruett.

In 1914, when Angelo was still a toddler, his mother took him to Italy with her when she was informed that her father was dying. World War I broke out in the meantime, and the two were stuck in Italy until the end of the conflict. He returned to his hometown of St. Paul, MN in 1918.
