Biographical Information

Kent Hrbek was signed as a 17th round pick in the 1978 amateur draft by the Minnesota Twins and scout Angelo Giuliani.

Hrbek was a major star during his 14-year major league career as a first baseman. He spent his entire career with the Twins and played on World Series winners in 1987 and 1991. In fact, Hrbek is one of the few players to play his entire career with his hometown team. He was born in Minneapolis, went to high school in Bloomington, then played briefly in Bloomington before the Twins moved into the Metrodome in 1982. He often slugged around .500 at a time when that meant being one of the better sluggers in the league. He had 312 lifetime doubles and 293 home runs.

He was named to the All-Star team only once, perhaps because there were always first basemen from bigger-name teams who had as many home runs. In 1987, when the Twins won the World Series, their only All-Star was Kirby Puckett.

Sports Illustrated recently reported that Hrbek is trying to find a national syndicate for his widely popular weekly fishing show, Kent Hrbek Outdoors.
