Biographical Information

Angelo "Jello" Burrows had much in common with his countryman Roy Bethel. He played nine pro seasons from 2000 through 2008, including his last two-plus in independent leagues. He came up as an outfielder but was converted to pitching in 2004. Burrows' career peak came in 2002, when he made it to Double-A for 14 games.

The Atlanta Braves selected him in the ninth round of the 1999 Amateur Draft. He debuted with the 2000 Danville Braves, hitting .275/.324/.333 with 28 runs in 44 games. For the 2001 Macon Braves, he produced at a .256/.303/.329 rate with 31 steals and 15 times caught stealing. He split 2002 between Macon (.239/.264/.350 in 96 G, 1 SB) and the AA Greenville Braves (.213/.245/.319 in 14 G). He had 14 outfield assists. His four double plays for Macon tied Miguel Negron for the most by a South Atlantic League outfielder that year. In '04, he was with the Rome Braves (.204/.255/.367 in 22 G) and Myrtle Beach Pelicans (.252/.286/.323 in 41 G). He began pitching later that year, making appearances for the GCL Braves (1-3, 3 Sv, 3.75) and Rome (1-2, 4.72, 11 BB in 13 1/3 IP).

In 2005, Burrows pitched for Rome (3-1, 3 Sv, 3.48 in 16 G) and Myrtle Beach (1-2, 3.15, 22 K, 14 H in 20 IP). He was then traded with Todd Blackford to the Chicago Cubs for Todd Hollandsworth. With the Daytona Cubs, he tossed four shutout innings, fanning six. He began 2006 back with Daytona but struggled big-time (2-1, 10.66, .385 opponent average) and was let go. Signing with the Road Warriors, he went 3-2 with a 4.09 and fanned 45 in 44 innings. He spent 2007 with the Nashua Pride and was 4-2 with two saves and a 5.16 ERA in 32 games. He ended his career with the 2008 Ottawa Rapidz, going 3-1 with 4 saves and a 2.76 ERA. His 40 appearances were third in the Canadian-American Association.

As a batter, Burrows hit .248/.288/.335 with 9 homers in 497 games. As a pitcher, he was 18-14 with 12 saves and a 4.20 ERA.
