Angel Morales was a two-time Olympic outfielder.
Morales played for the Puerto Rican national team in the 1986 Amateur World Series, 1986 Central American and Caribbean Games and 1987 Pan American Games (they won Bronze in that event). In the 1988 Baseball World Cup, he hit .395/.490/.737 with 14 runs and 14 RBI in 11 games as Puerto Rico's starting center fielder. He was the club's top offensive threat. The only players to drive in more in the event were future big league stars or Cubans - Robin Ventura, Luis Casanova, Tino Martinez, Omar Linares and Victor Mesa. Angel remained with Puerto Rico for the 1988 Olympics.
In the 1989 Intercontinental Cup, the 24-year-old joined Lourdes Gourriel Sr. and Tatsunori Matsui as the All-Star outfielders and he helped Puerto Rico win the Bronze Medal. He continued his stardom in the 1990 Baseball World Cup, when the little outfielder hit .417/.463/.556. He was named to the All-Star outfield alongside Rikkert Faneyte and Shinichi Sato. He played in the 1990 Goodwill Games. He helped Puerto Rico to Silver Medals in both the 1990 Central American and Caribbean Games and the 1991 Pan American Games.
Morales again started in center for Puerto Rico in the 1992 Olympics and again paced their offense, hitting .333/.406/.481 with 6 RBI in seven games. In the 1994 Baseball World Cup, when the 29-year-old showed he still had it at .350/.517/.400 with 7 walks in 7 games at DH. He helped Puerto Rico win a Bronze in the 1995 Pan American Games.
