Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Anfernee Grier was drafted out of high school by the Detroit Tigers in the 39th round of the 2013 amateur draft, but decided to go on to college. After three years at Auburn University, he was drafted again, this time with the 39th overall pick of the 2016 amateur draft, in Competitive Balance Round A, by the Arizona Diamondbacks. He was Arizona's top selection that year, as they had surrendered their first-round selection when they had signed P Zack Greinke to a free agent contract.

Grier made his professional debut in 2016 by playing 24 games with the Missoula Osprey of the Pioneer League and the Hillsboro Hops of the Northwest League. He hit .236 with 2 homers ans 8 RBIs. In 2017, he spent the whole season with the Kane County Cougars of the Midwest League and in 123 games, hit .251/.340/.331. In addition to good on-base skills, he stole 30 bases in 41 attempts and scored 69 runs. He was named a mid-season All-Star in the Midwest League. In 2018, however, his season was cut short by an injury as he played just 34 games with the Visalia Rawhide of the California League and another 9 on a rehabilitation assignment with the AZL Diamondbacks. At Visalia, he hit just .208, but with some good power, as he collected 5 doubles, 1 triple and 3 homers.
