Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Andrew Taylor made his major league debut with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at the tail end of the 2012 season.
A left-hander, he was drafted by the Angels in the 34th round of the 2008 amateur draft out of North Carolina State University. He played five seasons in the Angels' system before getting a chance in The Show. He was a reliever for most of that span, except for the 2011 season, which he spent as a starter for the AA Arkansas Travelers, going 2-11, 5.14 in 29 games, 19 of which were starts. He found much more success working out of the bullpen: in 2009, he was a combined 4-0, 2.05 with 8 saves in 45 games between the Cedar Rapids Kernels and Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. In 2012, he pitched in 53 games between Arkansas and the AAA Salt Lake Bees with a record of 4-3, 4.27 and 2 saves. In 59 innings, he gave up 60 hits, struck out 56 and walked 25, earning a shot at the big leagues.
Andrew made his debut with the Angels on September 27, 2012, with the team trying to stay in the race for a wild card spot in the American League. He relieved veteran LaTroy Hawkins with the Seattle Mariners having just increased their lead to 9-4 with one out in the top of the 9th inning. He retired the first batter he faced, John Jaso on a line drive to RF Torii Hunter, then walked Justin Smoak and ended the inning when Michael Saunders hit a fly ball to LF Kole Calhoun.
