Alfonso Jalil has been on the Ecuadorian national team.
Jalil was the leadoff hitter and starting second baseman in Ecuador's first game of the 2022 South American Championship. The 18-year-old singled off Argentina's Guido Monis to open the game and finished 2-for-3; Gustavo Landin was their only other player to get a hit in a mercy rule loss. He hit .400/.455/.400 with three runs and one RBI in six games for the tournament, fielding .846 as a 2B-CF for the 3rd-place team. He tied Pedro Figueras, Susumu Yoza and Pedro Okuda for second in the event with eight hits, one behind Exequiel Talevi. He was 9th in average, second on Ecuador behind Landin. [1]
