Biographical Information[edit]

Alex Burgos has been a minor league pitcher.

Burgos was 13-1 with a 1.42 ERA as a college freshman and made All-Florida Community College Athletic Association. He was picked by the Detroit Tigers in the fifth round of the 2010 amateur draft, right after Stephen Pryor; the scout was Rolando Casanova. In his first season, he pitched eight games for the GCL Tigers, saving one; he fanned 15 and walked 3 in 11 2/3 IP and had a 1.54 ERA. With the 2011 West Michigan Whitecaps, he was very sharp at 6-5, 2.19 with a .189 opponent average and 89 K in 94 2/3 IP. Baseball America called him Detroit's 8th-best prospect.

In 2012, Burgos was 8-10 with a 4.90 ERA for the Lakeland Flying Tigers, walking 88 in 121 2/3 IP. He tied Angel Cuan, Jed Bradley and five others for the Florida State League lead in losses and led in walks (12 more than runner-up Enny Romero. The German-born hurler then joined the German national team for the 2013 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers.
