Biographical Information[edit]

Alex Pelaez played college ball at San Diego State University and was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 42nd round of the 1998 Amateur Draft. He played in the Padres system from 1998-2003, reaching the major leagues briefly in 2002. In 8 plate appearances for the Padres, Pelaez got two hits to finish with a .250/.250/.250 batting line. After leaving the Padres organization, he finished his playing career in the Anaheim Angels (2004) and Cincinnati Reds (2005) minor league systems.

Pelaez returned to the professional baseball ranks in 2009 and has served as a hitting coach in the Reds organization since then. He was scheduled to be the hitting coach for the Daytona Tortugas in 2020 before the season was cancelled due to COVID-19.

Among the highlights of his coaching career, the 2011 Dragons under his guidance led the Midwest League in team batting average and runs scored while breaking the club record for highest team batting average. In 2023, he worked with a Louisville offense that set franchise records in runs (902), hits (1,406), home runs (210), and extra base hits (544).
