Biographical Information

Alejandro Amézquita has pitched for the Guatemalan national team.

Amézquita was 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA when Juvenil de Guatemala Little League won the 2012 Senior League World Series (for players 16 years or younger, run by Little League Baseball). It was the first global title tournament for Guatemala. In the 2013 Bolivarian Games, the 17-year-old was the youngest player on Guatemala, almost a year younger than José Quilo. He also got the toughest job, facing Gold Medal winner Panama; he was roughed up for 6 hits, two walks, a hit batsman and 5 runs (3 earned) in 3 1/3 IP while fanning one in a 14-0 loss.

The right-hander pitched twice in relief in the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games, allowing 5 hits, a walk and 3 runs (2 earned) in 3 2/3 I P while striking out two. He had the lowest ERA of any Guatemalan hurler to give up an earned run. He was no longer their youngest player, as Pablo Custodio was younger. In his first outing in the 2017 Central American Games, he went five innings against eventual champion Nicaragua (5 IP, 7 H, 5 BB, 1 K, 5 R, 5 ER) before Juan Berger took over; Guatemala rallied only to lose, giving Amezquita a no-decision. He then got the nod in the Bronze Medal game against El Salvador and survived a rough first (walks to Juan Colato and Mario Velasco to open it) then allowed a single to Kevin Ayala to open the second before the game was rained out with Guatemala up 1-0; the teams got to share the Bronze.

He was 1-1 with a 3.72 ERA for the Alpine Cowboys in the 2019 Pecos League. After the 2020 minor league season was wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic, he went 6-3

with five saves and a 3.71 ERA for the '21 Cowboys, leading their staff in ERA, wins, saves and strikeouts. He tied for third in the circuit in victories, was second to Gabe Katich in ERA and was third in saves. In 2022, he fell to 3-0, 6.57 with three saves for Alpine.

Suiting up for Guatemala again (in the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games Central American Qualifier, he again got the nod against El Salvador. He allowed two unearned runs in eight innings for the win, saved by Carlos Martínez. He faced Costa Rica in the Bronze Medal Game but was roughed up for 7 hits and 3 runs (all earned) in 3 1/3 IP, losing to Pablo Barquero. He tied Nelson Alfaro, Barquero, Ronald Medrano and Darlyn Rodriguez for the event lead in starts, was second to Barquero in innings and tied for 8th in Ks (7).
