Biographical Information[edit]
Infielder Albenis Machado's professional career spanned from 1998 to 2011, with a brief stint in 2014. He is the brother of major leaguer Anderson Machado.
He began his professional career in the Montreal Expos system, playing there from 1998 to 2003. Not an offensive stalwart, he did have decent speed, stealing as many as 19 bases in a season. But he was caught stealing often as well -- in his first campaign, he had 11 swipes and was caught 13 times, the next year, he had 19 steals and 28 caught stealings and in 2000, he had 16 steals and had 11 caught stealings. He also had a solid eye at the plate, never striking out more than 77 times in a season, while walking as many as 102 times. He reached Triple A for the first time in 2002, slashing .244/.370/.366 in 15 games for the Ottawa Lynx.
He joined the independent Lincoln Saltdogs in 2004, with whom he'd spend much of his career. After two years there, including a .326/.403/.471 season in 2005, he briefly joined the Chicago Cubs system in 2006, batting .108 in 17 Double A games. He spent most of the year with the independent El Paso Diablos, slashing .314/.418/.463 there. He played 19 games for the Cubs' Triple A club, the Iowa Cubs, in 2007, hitting just .100 in 30 at-bats. With the Diablos that year, he hit .317/.431/.395 with a career high 28 stolen bases. He played for Lincoln, El Paso and the Guerreros de Oaxaca of the Mexican League in 2008, then returned to Lincoln for 2009 and 2010, before joining El Paso in 2011. After a couple years way, he played a single game for Lincoln in 2014.
Overall, he hit .271/.378/.350 with 33 home runs, 497 RBI, 166 stolen bases, 103 caught stealings, 815 walks and 730 strikeouts in 15 seasons.
He later settled in Lincoln, NE.
