Biographical Information[edit]

Alan Marr was a minor league infielder for three years and then a scout.

Marr hit .300/.385/.377 for the Great Falls Giants in 1982, fielding .874 as their starter at third base. He led Pioneer League third basemen in assists (101), tied for the most putouts (52) and was second to Pat Borders with 22 errors. He did not come close to the top 10 in average in the hitter-friendly loop, .033 shy of qualifying. With the '83 Clinton Giants, he fell to .233/.344/.273 at the plate and 5-for-18 on the basepaths, fielding .930 at 3B. He ended his playing career with the 1984 Fresno Giants, batting .252/.362/.305 with a team-high 30 steals in 40 tries. Overall, he had hit .254/.359/.306 in 288 minor league games, with 139 runs, 90 RBI and 42 steals in 69 tries. He had fielded .913 in 233 games at third base and .938 in 32 at 2B.

Alan remained with the San Francisco Giants organization as a scout before moving to the Baltimore Orioles in 2005. He signed Boof Bonser and Lance Niekro. He won the A.B. "Turk" Karam Award in 2001. In 2008, he was fired due to allegations of illegal gambling. He later scouted for the Philadelphia Phillies, signing Josh Tobias.
