Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Josh Tobias was drafted twice. The first time was in the 31st round of the 2011 amateur draft, by the Washington Nationals, and the second in the 10th round of the 2015 amateur draft, by the Philadelphia Phillies, out of the University of Florida. The scout was Alan Marr. That time he signed and he began his professional career the same year.

Tobias hit .321/.362/.475 in 61 games for the Williamsport Crosscutters of the New York-Penn League in 2015, also smashing 19 doubles while playing second base. He was in the top five in the league in average, slugging, hits and total bases. In 2016, he began the season with the Lakewood BlueClaws of the South Atlantic League where he played 93 games before earning a promotion to the Clearwater Threshers of the Florida State League in late July. Altogether, in 127 games, he hit.291/.362/.422 with 31 doubles and 9 homers. He scored 70 runs and drove in 69. On December 20th, he was traded to the Boston Red Sox straight up for veteran starting pitcher Clay Buchholz.
