Biographical Information[edit]

Ferrer was an infielder for the first Puerto Rican national team, at the 1938 Central American and Caribbean Games. [1] He joined the Indianapolis Clowns in 1946, hitting .250/.321/.250 (70 OPS+) while serving as their main shortstop. [2] In the 1946-1947 Puerto Rican League, he stole 19 bases fpr the Cangrejeros de Santurce to tie Fernando Díaz Pedroso for the lead. [3]

In 1947, he was 3 for 16 for the Clowns, backing up two much bigger names, Newt Allen and Willie Wells, though those two guys were both over 40 years old by now. [4] He hit leadoff regularly in 1948 but fell to .178/.221/.222; he again started at short but also backed up Ray Neil at 2B and Sam Hairston at 3B. [5] He was also with the Chicago American Giants in 1951. [6] Overall, he played in the Puerto Rican League from 1938-1953 with Ponce, Humacao, Arecibo and Santurce. [7]
