Biographical Information[edit]

Adulfo Camacho played in the Mexican League from 1984 to 1997, primarily at second base.

Camacho debuted with the Mexico City Tigers and would spend his first decade with them. He hit .268/.338/.345 in 61 games as a rookie, playing primarily third base; one of Mexico City's other third basemen that year was veteran Aurelio Rodriguez. In 1985, Camacho batted .253/.353/.344. When Mexican League offensive levels skyrocketed in 1986, the infielder hit .319/.408/.412 with 24 doubles, 75 runs, 55 walks and 13 steals. Never much of a slugger, he only went deep once. In 1987, Adulfo hit .280/.371/.367 and laid down 24 sacrifice hits. Only two players in Mexican League history had more sacrifice hits to that point - George Hausmann back in 1947 (27) and Houston Jiménez in 1978 (25). Unlike Hausmann and Jiménez, Camacho would never play in the major leagues.

During the 1988 campaign, Camacho batted .239/.308/.303 and fielded .979 at second base for the Tigres. He stole 22 bases but was thrown out running 17 times. He was one sacrifice fly shy of the league lead. In '89, the 25-year-old produced at a .283/.364/.335 rate with a career-high 31 steals while being caught only 10 times. He also scored 72 runs and led the league with 19 sacrifice hits. The Sonora native was at .291/.422/.390 in 1990 and again led the league in sacrifice hits (19 again, tied with Julian Wong). He fielded .989 at 2B.

Camacho hit a career-high 6 home runs for the 1991 Tigres and his batting line was .259/.406/.426 but he was limited to 61 games (his lowest total between his rookie and final seasons). In 1992, he batted .229/.322/.319 with 72 runs. In his 10th and last season for the Tigres, he batted .265/.375/.330. Moving to the Yucatan Lions, he hit .242/.354/.274 in 1994. He fielded .991, best of any second sacker in Mexico that year.

In 1995, the veteran hit .245/.382/.317 for Yucatan, with a career-high 76 walks. He scored 69 runs as well and his 20 sacrifice hits were one shy of the league lead. The next year, Adulfo batted .214/.351/.271 between Yucatan and the Saltillo Saraperos. He ended his career in 1997, playing for both the Lions and the Minatitlan Oilers, batting a combined .177/.365/.232 with 46 walks but only 29 hits in 57 games.

Overall, he had hit .258/.366/.334 in 1,385 Mexican League games, with 803 runs, 492 RBI, 713 walks and 112 steals (in 187 tries). He hit 32 home runs, drove in 492 and had 175 sacrifice hits. Through 2000, he was 32nd in league history in walks and 8th in sacrifice hits (between Antonio Briones and Arnoldo Castro).

Camacho was one of three managers of the Vaqueros de Laguna in 2010. In 2012 he was a coach for the Rieleros de Aguascalientes.
