Adam Mills began 2010 in AAA.

Mills was 8-5 with a 3.00 ERA in college in 2006, leading the Atlantic-10 Conference with 111 whiffs versus only 19 walks. As a senior in 2007, he was a consensus All-American. He had a 14-2, 1.01 record that year with 141 strikeouts, 27 walks and 93 hits in 142 2/3 innings. He was named A-10 Pitcher of the Year. He led NCAA Division I in ERA by .33, tied Bryan Henry for the most wins and was 6th in strikeouts (behind David Price, Brian Matusz, Wes Roemer, Preston Guilmet and Lance Lynn).

The Boston Red Sox took Mills in the 8th round of the 2007 amateur draft. He had a fine pro debut with the Lowell Spinners that year, going 3-1 with a save, a 2.04 ERA and 37 strikeouts in 35 1/3 innings. Mills quickly climbed the ladder in 2008. He started off with the Lancaster JetHawks, going 7-4 with a 4.43 ERA. Promoted to the Portland Sea Dogs, he had a 4.00 ERA but failed to win in 11 starts, going 0-5 for a team over .500. Between the two stops, he walked only 23 in 144 1/3 innings. The Maryland native was called up to the Pawtucket Red Sox for the playoffs and was rocked for five runs in 3 1/3 innings.

In 2009, Adam had a worse ERA but better record for Portland (10-5, 4.24) and was 2-2 with a 3.48 ERA for Pawtucket, walking only 30 in 141 1/3 innings overall. He led all Red Sox farmhands in wins. Starting 2010 with Pawtucket, Mills began 1-6 with a 4.25 ERA. He had walked 15 in 82 2/3 innings but had fanned just 29.
