History, Comments, Contributions[edit]

On June 13-16, the 2019 San Diego Padres combined with the Colorado Rockies to set a new major league record by scoring a total of 92 runs in a four-game series, beating the previous record of 88 set in 1929. The series started innocently with a 9-6 win by Colorado, followed by a 16-12 Padres win in 12 innings, that featured San Diego coming back from 6 runs down in the 9th; in the third game, San Diego lost, 14-8, but they won the final game, 14-13, when Rockies closer Wade Davis gave up 4 runs in the 9th, the last on a bases-loaded walk. Hunter Renfroe had a three-homer game in the second game, including long balls in the 9th and 12th innings, and two more in the 4th game to give him a total of 23 on the year.

The Padres generally did well in the first half of the season, as they were at .500 with a record of 45-45 at the All-Star break. However, things went tumbling down quickly from that point on as they played poorly over the next two months. That cost manager Andy Green his job, as soon after it was confirmed that the Padres would have their fourth straight losing season under his stewardship, he was fired on September 21st with 8 games left to play. Bench coach Rod Barajas was named interim manager. The final week under Barajas was pretty awful, as the Padres went 1-7 and thus finished last in the division.
