Season Highlights[edit]

The 2013 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim headed into the season brimming with confidence after splurging on free agent Josh Hamilton in the off-season, pried away from division rivals the Texas Rangers. He joined an already solid team led by the previous off-season's marquee signings, 1B Albert Pujols and P C.J. Wilson, and second-year OF Mike Trout, whom many argued should have beaten out Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera for the MVP Award. However, things did not get off as planned. Hamilton was mired in a deep slump all of April, the starting pitching was atrocious, and the Angels had the worst start in franchise history: 11-22 on May 8th. They were still only 15-27 on May 17th, only ahead of the woeful Houston Astros in the AL West, but already 12 games out of first place, when they began an eight-game winning streak that at least made their record slightly respectable, even though it still left them a ways away from being back in the race.
