2000 Triple-A World Series
The 2000 Triple-A World Series was the third meeting between the champions of the Pacific Coast League and International League in a postseason series. The Memphis Redbirds won their first PCL title in team history, while the Indianapolis Indians won the International League's Governors' Cup for the first time since 1963.
The entire series was played at Cashman Field in Las Vegas, NV. The event was plagued by poor attendance. Santiago Perez was named series MVP.
In game four, Horacio Estrada locked up the Series with 8 innings of 4-hit work; Bob Scanlan got the save. Jose Fernandez was 2 for 2 with 2 RBI for the winners.
Overall, Santiago Perez was 6 for 13 with a double, 2 homers, 2 steals, 4 runs and 3 RBI for Indianapolis while Norberto Martin hit .444 and Rafael Roque tossed 8 shutout innings.
For Memphis, Keith McDonald hit .417 and Larry Sutton blasted three homers, driving in five.
To date, this is the final World Series. Attempts to organize a 2001 Series failed when the IL and PCL couldn't agree on a series format and location. The two leagues decided to try a single-game championship format in 2006, known as the Bricktown Showdown.
