1996 European Cupwinners Cup

The European Cupwinners Cup returned in 1996 after being cancelled the year before. It was held in Sundbyberg, Sweden.

The Italian Baseball League representatives were Fiorentina who played in Serie A2, the second level down in the IBL structure. They failed to make the playoffs.

The Dutch Hoofdklasse didn't even send a team to this event, choosing instead to play in the Pool B qualifier tournament despite the fact they won this cup last time it was played.

The Leksand Lumberjacks of Sweden won the cup, taking advantage of the considerably weaker than usual field of competing teams. They are to date the only Swedish team to have won a European competition.
