1984 National League Championship Series
1984 NL Championship Series (3-2) San Diego Padres (92-70) over Chicago Cubs (96-65)
Introduction[edit]
Umpires[edit]
- Games 1 and 2: Dick Cavenaugh, Dave Slickenmayer, Joe Pomponi, Joe Maher
- Games 3 and 4: Terry Bovey, Frank Campagna, Frank Fisher, John Stewart
- Game 5: John Kibler, Paul Runge, John McSherry, Doug Harvey
Because of a labor conflict with the Major League Umpires Association, the National League was forced to use replacement umpires for the first four games of the 1984 NLCS. One four-man crew umpired the two games in Chicago, and a second one worked the first two games in San Diego, at which point the conflict was settled and regular umpires were able to return to action for the deciding Game 5. However, only a four-person crew was used for that game, instead of the six-person crew usually in effect for postseason games.
