Biographical Information[edit]
Joe Pomponi was a replacement umpire for 10 games in the National League in 1979, during the umpires' strike and again for two games during a briefer strike that took place at the start of the 1984 NLCS.
He had previous proifessional umpiring experience, having worked in the Appalachian League in 1968.
He served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957.
