1984 European Championship B Pool
(Redirected from 1984 European B-Level Championship)
The 1984 European Championship B Pool was the first qualifier for a European Championship, with the winner going to the 1985 European Championship. It was held at Anlaby Road Cricket Circle, Kingston upon Hull, Great Britain from August 16 to August 18. Oddly, the wickets from cricket games were still on the field during the baseball tournament! San Marino swept their way to the title, beating Germany 16-4, Finland 18-8 and United Kingdom 15-7. The other teams tied for second at 1-2, Finland getting their first international win ever by beating West Germany 15-13 on the 18th.
Great Britain's team, managed by Ron Marshall, included Alan Bloomfield, Julian Dodwell, Michael Harrold, Dennis King, Hugh King, Barry Marshall, Frank Parker Jr. and Neil Read.
West Germany's team included Jürgen Helmig (the long-time German standby was now 46 years old, in his last tournament), Roland Hoffmann (another old-timer at 48, in his 4th decade playing for them like Helmig), Frank Jäger and Stephan Jäger.
