The 1967 Cleveland Indians pitching staff struck out 1189 batters, a new American League record that would stand for 30 years until the 1997 Seattle Mariners topped the mark in the middle of the steroid era. The main contributors were Sam McDowell (236 Ks), Luis Tiant (219), Steve Hargan (141) and Sonny Siebert (136), while Stan Williams, Bob Allen and Ed Connolly all had over 8 strikeouts per 9 innings pitched.
