Biographical Information

Outfielder Zach Granite began his professional career in 2013.

He was taken by the Minnesota Twins in the 14th round of the 2013 amateur draft after a three-year career at Seton Hall University in which he hit .299 with 67 stolen bases in 156 games. The scout was John Wilson.

With the Elizabethton Twins in 2013, he hit .285/.362/.343 with 14 stolen bases, 29 walks and only 25 strikeouts in 61 games to earn Appalachian League Mid-Season All-Star honors. In 25 games between the GCL Twins and Cedar Rapids Kernels in 2014, he hit .280/.320/.344 with four swipes, missing most of the year after an injury sustained while diving for a ball. He began 2015 with Cedar Rapids, but was promoted to the Fort Myers Miracle after about a month.

He hit his first major league homer under very unusual circumstances: on September 23, 2017, he entered a game against the Detroit Tigers in the 8th inning as a pinch-runner for Joe Mauer. He came in to score on a hit by Eddie Rosario, then the Twins batted around that inning. When he came up to bat, he homered off Blaine Hardy, a three-run shot that capped an eight-run inning. What was unusual was that he did not have a position at the time, as he was no longer a pinch-runner, but had yet to be assigned a position in the field. He eventually moved to left field when the Tigers came up to bat in the bottom of the 8th. He hit .237 in 40 games for the Twins that season and then was 1 for 2 in the Wild Card Game which Minnesota lost to the New York Yankees.

Granite spent all of 2018 in the minors, playing 68 games for the Rochester Red Wings and hitting .211 with no homers and 4 RBIs. He went to spring training with the Twins in 2019, but at the end of February he was designated for assignment when Minnesota signed free agent Marwin Gonzalez. On March 4th, he was traded to the Texas Rangers for pitcher Xavier Moore.
