Biographical Information[edit]
Yong Min Lee went to the MLB Australian Academy then pitched for the New Zealand national team in the 2013 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers. In his lone outing, he relieved Christian Wise with a 10-1 lead, the bases loaded and two outs in the 6th against Thailand. He retired Narin Turapa to end the threat. In the 7th, he got Adichat Wongvichit on a grounder, walked Nathan Lorentz and fanned Jittipong Chong-On. That brought up longtime major league star Johnny Damon. Lee dispatched him on a fly to left. In the 8th, he was relieved by Wayde Bremner.
Lee started one game for New Zealand in the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers; it was a win-or-go-home game against South Africa. He allowed hits in the first to Anthony Phillips and Jonathan Phillips, walked Kyle Botha then Brett Willemburg grounded in a run. After a third-inning walk to Anthony Phillips, Blair Johnstone relieved and let the inherited run score. South Africa went on to a 9-2 win and Lee was charged with the loss.
