Biographical Information[edit]

Yong-hoon Lee played in the Korea Baseball Organization for 15 years.

Lee was drafted by the Samsung Lions in the 15th round of the 1996 KBO draft, and he decided to go to college first. He joined the team in 2000, and he went 9-7 with a 5.63 ERA in his first year. He was 4-4 with a 5.53 ERA in 2001, then he represented South Korea in the 2001 Baseball World Cup. He was 0-1 with a 3.18 ERA, though he struck out 11 in 5 2/3 IP. He lost to Chih-Chia Chang of Taiwan. The Lions traded him with Gi-tae Kim, Dong-soo Kim, Kyoung-bae Chung, Sang-jin Kim and Tae-han Kim to the SK Wyverns for Sang-min Oh, Tilson Brito and 1.1 billion won after the '01 season. Lee struggled in 2002 as his ERA was 8.64 in 17 games, then the Wyverns traded him to the Lotte Giants for Young-soo Kim.

The Busan native allowed 17 runs in 13 innings in 2003, then he improved to 1-3 with a 4.01 ERA in 2004. He had a 7-9 record with a 5.01 ERA in 2005, then he missed the next three seasons due to injuries. Lee finally returned in 2008, and he was 6-7 with a 4.09 ERA. He was 5-7 with a 6.30 ERA in 2009, and he recorded a 8.27 ERA in 7 games in 2010. Lee mainly stayed in the minors in 2011, and he only pitched 4 games with a 11.25 ERA. On September 17 against the Hanwha Eagles' minors team, Lee completed the first perfect game in Korean professional baseball history.

Lee came back in 2012, and he was 8-5 with a 3.01 ERA. However, he suffered from injuries again, and he didn't pitch another game for the big club until he announced his retirement in 2014. He was the bullpen coach of the Giants from 2017 to 2018 and the minor league bullpen coach in 2019. He became their pitching coach of the minors in 2020 and for the big club in 2021. Lee then served as pitching coach of the NC Dinos minor league team from 2022 to 2024, and he was named the pitching coach of their major league team on September 20, 2024.

Overall, Lee was 42-49 with a 5.30 ERA, struck out 515 and pitched 706 innings in 15 seasons in the KBO.
