Biographical Information[edit]

Yoelkis Guibert has played in Cuba and Mexico and for the Cuban national team.

Guibert debuted for Santiago de Cuba in 2014-2015, going 2 for 16. He hit .301/.386/.356 for the team in 2016-2017, with 8 assists in 44 games as their primary center fielder. He hit .423/.423/.500 for Cuba in the 2017 World Port Tournament, finishing among the event's leaders in average (3rd, behind Takuya Okura and Shurendell Mujica), slugging (tied Edinho Meyer for 4th), hits (11, tied for 2nd with Masaki Otani), doubles (2, tied for 4th) and total bases (13, tied Mujica for 3rd). His batting lines were .295/.387/.443 in 2017-2018 (106 PO, 10 A, 0 E) and .329/.396/.500 in 2018-2019 as he was developing more pop. [2] He made Cuba's squad for the 2019 Pan American Games, starting in right. He went 2 for 9 with 3 runs, 2 walks and a RBI. [3] He was also with them for the 2019 Premier 12 but only got into one game, as a 10th-inning defensive sub in left for Frederich Cepeda in a 3-2 win over Australia. [4]

In 2019-2020, he batted .301/.395/.484 with 6 triples, 41 walks and 51 runs in 70 games for Santiago de Cuba. He led the league in triples. [5] He was on Cuba's roster for the 2020 Americas Olympic Qualifier before that was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic (the 2020 Olympics were later delayed as well due to the pandemic). [6] He was even better in 2020-2021 at .362/.452/.489 with 29 walks in 43 contests. He was 10th in average. [7]

He was then sent to the Tomateros de Culiacán for the Mexican Pacific League. [8] He hit .313/.387/.349 for them. Had he qualified, he would have ranked 6th in the LMP in average.
