Biographical Information[edit]
Yoandy Rea has played in the minors and for the Venezuelan national team.
Rea was signed by Detroit Tigers scouts Jesus Mendoza and Delvis Pacheco in November 2017. [1] He hit .320/.405/.455 for the 2018 DSL Tigers 2 and threw out 50% of those who tried to steal. He split 2019 between the GCL Tigers East (.400/.453/.653, 25 RBI in 29 G) and Connecticut Tigers (5 for 21). He tied for 9th in the Gulf Coast League in dingers. He made the GCL All-Star team. [2] The 2020 minor league season was wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic. In '21, he batted .318/.384/.439 for the FCL Tigers West. Despite having hit .336/.406/.492 in 113 pro games, with 71 RBI, the Tigers didn't keep him around. He had hit over .318 each season!
He then was the starting catcher for Venezuela in the 2022 Bolivarian Games. In their opener, he batted second, going 0 for 3 against former major leaguer Alfredo Figaro but then singling off Frangely Morel to score Juan Bidau later. [3]
