Biographical Information[edit]

Yoandy Garlobo won one batting title in Cuba and been part of the Cuban national team.

Garlobo hit .385 for a disappointing 3-4 Cuban team in the 1995 World Junior Championship. He was named to the All-Tournament Team in the outfield alongside future big leaguers Eric Valent and Brent Abernathy. In the 2000-2001 Serie Nacional, he batted .347/.403/.519 for Matanzas. The next season, he hit .323/.411/.444. Garlobo produced at a .330/.419/.503 clip in 2002-2003. He followed with a .355/.442/.553 campaign in 2003-2004 to tie Yorelvis Charles for 8th in average. He scored 14 runs in the 2004 Super Liga to tie Yasser Gómez for the most.

The Matanzas outfielder hit .332/.413/.527 in 2004-2005. He followed with a .407/.551/.619 season in 2005-2006. He was third in average behind Michel Enríquez and Osmani Urrutia. Due to the larger rosters for the World Baseball Classic compared to other international events and due to his fine season, Garlobo was added to the Cuban national team roster for the first time.

Garlobo was one of the stars of the 2006 World Baseball Classic. He hit .480/.536/.640 and was second to Ken Griffey Jr. in batting average among players with 20+ AB. He tied Ichiro Suzuki for 2nd in hits (12), one behind Nobuhiko Matsunaka. He was 4th in OBP behind Adam Stern, Griffey and Jason Bay. Garlobo made the WBC All-Star Team as the DH.

During the 2006 Central American and Caribbean Games, Garlobo was just 2 for 20 yet Cuba still won Gold. In the 2006 Intercontinental Cup, he was 4 for 10 with 5 runs, backing up Osmani Urrutia at DH.

Garlobo slipped to .330/.455/.469 in 2006-2007. He hit .398/.525/.615 as the Matanzas first baseman in the 2007-2008 Serie Nacional. He tied Yosvani Peraza for 8th in the league in walks (60), won the batting title and was 9th in slugging. He presumably led or was among the leaders in OBP as well. He was the All-Star first baseman and won the Gold Glove Award too.

Garlobo hit .364/.505/.540 in 2008-2009. He tied for 7th in the league with 71 walks and was possibly among the OBP leaders but did not make the top 10 in any other department.
