Yuichiro Okano has pitched for the Japanese national team.
Okano represented Japan in the 2012 U-18 Baseball World Cup, going five scoreless (4 H, 0 BB, 5 K) to beat the Czech Republic's Lukáš Ercoli. [1] He played for Toshiba in the industrial leagues after college. [2] He starred for Japan in the 2018 Asian Games. Facing Pakistan, he got the win over Tariq Nadeem, facing in the minimum through four (he fanned four and allowed two hits but got two double plays turned by his teammates) before Yudai Aranishi relieved. In the semifinals, he beat Taiwan and Hua-Ching Lin with 5 2/3 shutout innings (6 H, 1 BB, 7 K) before Aranishi completed the shutout. Japan finished with a Silver Medal. In the main round, he posted the best ERA of any hurler (Aranishi was second, also at 0.00, in 3 fewer innings) and tied Quan Gan and Inayat Ullah Khan for 3rd in Ks, 2 behind Muhammad Usman and one behind Chi-Kam Kenneth Chiu.
