Biographical Information[edit]
Yasunaga Makishi played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 6 years.
Makishi was drafted by the Kintetsu Buffaloes in the 3rd round of the 1986 NPB draft, and he hit .190/.180/.205 in 77 games in 1987. He had a .190/.232/.290 batting line in 1988, and he improved to .254/.307/.393 with 7 homers in 1989. However, Makishi slumped to .175/.230/.316 in 1990, and he only played 3 games combined in the next two seasons. He batted .179/.281/.250 in 1993, and he announced his retirement after spending the entire 1994 season in the minors. Makishi then became the fielding coach for Kintetsu/Orix Buffaloes from 1995 to 2007, and he was the fielding coach for the Nippon Ham Fighters from 2008 to 2011 and for their minor league club in 2012. Makishi was the fielding coach for the Buffaloes from 2013 to 2015, and he moved to the Rakuten Golden Eagles as fielding coach from 2016 to 2018. He became Rakuten's bench coach from 2019 to 2022, and he was the interim manager in 2022 for 6 days. Makishi went to the Rakuten Monkeys as their fielding coach in 2023, and he returned to the Golden Eagles as minor league fielding coach in 2024.
Overall, Makishi hit .207/.256/.318 with 150 hits and 14 homers in 6 seasons in NPB, having made his living presumably more for his glovework at short than for his bat.
