Biographical Information[edit]

Yancy Ayres was a minor league catcher who later was a scout.

Ayres was picked by the Kansas City Royals in the 27th round of the 1998 amateur draft out of Kansas State. He hit .227/.277/.273 in 18 games for the 1998 GCL Royals and .169/.250/.196 in 25 games as the #3 catcher for the 1999 Charleston AlleyCats. He produced at a .256/.306/.357 clip and played error-free defense for the 2001 Springfield Capitals, an independent league team. In 2002, he fielded .997 but batted just .196/.250/.260 for the Springfield/Ozark Mountain Ducks. He was 3 for 31 with a walk for the 2003 Mountain Ducks to end his pro career; he had hit .209/.264/.271 with 57 runs and 50 RBI in 168 games, while fielding .996.

Yancy returned to college, serving as a graduate assistant at Emporia State from 2004-2006. He then became an Oakland A's scout, signing Anthony Capra, Dusty Coleman, Conner Crumbliss and Brendan McCurry.
