Biographical Information

Yam Yaryan had a long minor league career (1917-1940) and played two seasons in the majors. In 1921 he hit .304 with the Chicago White Sox. From 1926-1930 with the Birmingham Barons he never hit less than .330. Yaryan was out of baseball in 1933-1935, then returned as a player/manager in 1936. As a 46-year-old catcher in 1939, Yaryan hit .302 in the class-B Southeastern League. He then hit .302 at 47 in the class D Alabama State League in 1940. Overall, he hit .315 with 213 home runs in twenty seasons in the minor leagues.

Yaryan was one of the first, if not the first, player to hit 200 or more home runs in a professional career.

After leaving baseball he was a salesman.
