In 1937 the Andalusia Bulldogs replaced the Andalusia Reds in the Alabama-Florida League. In 1938 Virgil Trucks was the league's star while pitching for Andalusia. Trucks went 25-6 with a 1.25 ERA. The Bulldogs began to use Trucks only in home games so that other teams couldn't capitalize on the extra attendance he brought to a game. That season Trucks had the third-best strikeout season in minor league history when he fanned 418 batters,
