Biographical Information[edit]

Woo-gu Hwang played in the Korea Baseball Organization for 6 years.

Hwang represented South Korea in the 1998 Asian Games and 1998 Baseball World Cup. In the latter event, he hit .200/.222/.286 with two runs and two RBI in ten games, fielding .976 as his country's starting shortstop. The Hanwha Eagles selected him in the first round of the 1999 KBO draft, and he hit .177/.220/.212 in his first season. Hwang improved to .305/.325/.431 in 2000, but he then slumped to .195/.302/.265 in 2001. Hwang lost his starting shortstop spot in 2002, and he only played 43 games with a .280/.368/.427 batting line. He recorded a .259/.360/.359 batting line in 2003, but he struggled in 2004 as he hit .178/.245/.244 in 29 games. Hwang announced his retirement after the 2004 season.

Overall, Hwang hit .238/.315/.331 with 173 hits and 7 homers in 6 seasons in the KBO.
