Biographical Information[edit]
Won-jun Choi (then known as Dong-hyun Choi) had a 3.38 ERA for South Korea when they won Bronze in the 2015 Universiade. In the 2015 Asian Championship, he pitched for the Gold Medal-winning South Korean national team against Indonesia (2 IP, 1 H, 1 K, 0 R) and Taiwan (2/3 IP, 1 H, 0 R). Collegiate teammate Ye-il Seo was also on the club. He had Tommy John surgery as a college senior.
Choi was the first-round pick of the Doosan Bears in the 2017 KBO draft. He allowed 22 hits and 16 runs (11 earned) in 9 1/3 IP in 2018. In 2019, he was 1-2 with a save and a 2.65 ERA in 2019. The Bears won the 2019 Korean Series. In 2020, the submarine hurler was 10-2 with a 3.80 ERA. He started 2021 7-1, 2.80 and made South Korea' squad for the Tokyo Olympics.
