Biographical Information[edit]
Will McAffer has pitched in the minors and has won a Silver Medal with Team Canada.
McAffer was 0-1 with 3 runs in 3 innings for Canada in the 2015 U-18 Baseball World Cup. [1] The Cincinnati Reds took him in the 32nd round of the 2015 amateur draft. He was 6-3 as a sophomore at Central Arizona College. [2] He was 0-4 with two saves and a 6.91 ERA for Tulane in 2018. The Toronto Blue Jays selected him in the 25th round of the 2018 amateur draft.
He made his pro debut with the Vancouver Canadians that summer. The North Vancouver native looked at home, going 7-2 with a 3.68 ERA and 37 K in 29 1/3 innings. He led the Northwest League in wins. He spent most of 2018 with the Lansing Lugnuts, with a 4-3, 4.34 record and one save. He struck out an impressive 70 in 56 innings but also issued 39 walks.
He took off part of 2019 from Lansing to play for Canada in the 2019 Pan American Games. He pitched twice for the Silver Medalists, both times facing Gold Medal winner Puerto Rico. He replaced Ryan Kellogg in the 4th inning of a 8-5 loss and did well (1 R in 2 1/3 IP) before Ben Abram took over; he was Canada's most-effective hurler that day. In the Gold Medal Game, he replaced Chris Leroux in the bottom of the 6th with a 2-1 deficit against Puerto Rico, one on and one out. He allowed a single to Wilfredo Rodríguez, walked Jorge Padilla and gave up a two-run single to Luis Mateo before being yanked for Evan Rutckyj. [3]
Will then made Canada's squad for the 2019 Premier 12.
