Biographical Information[edit]

Wan-Lin Tsai pitched in the CPBL for 6 years. His cousin is former CPBL player Chien-Fu Yang.

Tsai represented Taiwan in the 2007 World Port Tournament. The Uni-President Lions drafted him in the 4th round of the 2010 CPBL Draft, and he was 8-3 with a 3.36 ERA in the minors in 2011. He was 6-0 with a 2.23 ERA in 2012, and he also pitched 9 games with a 2.20 ERA for the big club. Tsai went 4-4 with a 3.74 ERA in the minors in 2013, and his ERA rose to 23.14 ERA in 7 games in 2014. He only got 7 appearances combined in those two seasons. He was 6-10 with a 5.63 ERA in 2015, and he led the minors in losses. He won the ERA title there with a 4.90 ERA in 2016, and he had a 4-4 record. Tsai pitched 6 games with a 5.40 ERA for the major league in 2017, then he announced his retirement.

Tsai’s repertoire included a fastball (peak 91.9 mph), slider and curveball.

Overall, Tsai was 1-2 with a 2.84 ERA, pitched 38 innings and struck out 11 in 6 seasons in the CPBL. He is the all-time wins leader of the CPBL minor league as of 2023.
