Biographical Information[edit]
The father of Don Mueller and brother of Heinie Mueller, outfielder Walter Mueller played four years in the majors with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He made his big league debut on May 7th, 1922 against the Chicago Cubs. Facing Hall of Famer Grover Cleveland Alexander in his first at-bat, he hit a three-run, inside-the-park home run on the first pitch he saw. He hit only one more homer in his big league career. Walter played in the semi-pro Missouri-Illinois Trolley League after his career, hit .328 in 18 games for Bly-Moss in 1933, and led the League in batting in 1934.
In addition to his son Don, another son Leroy Mueller and a grandson Mark Mueller played minor league ball.
