Biographical Information[edit]
Walter Hewett is listed as the manager of the 1888 Washington Nationals. In fact, he owned and/or managed at least two Washington teams.
The book Baseball in 1889 refers to Hewett as the owner of the Washington team.
In a somewhat cryptic statement in the August 1, 1890 New York Times, it was stated that "Walter Hewett and the assignee of the Washington Club yesterday severed their connection with the organization and turned it over to manager Sullivan. This move was brought about on account of the poor patronage." This was the Washington entry in the Atlantic Association, managed by Ted Sullivan who also managed the 1888 Washington National League club for part of the season. Although Sullivan said that the 1890 club would not disband, it did not play any more games.
