Biographical Information[edit]
Walter Cossutta was a long-time pitcher in Italy, playing in three decades.
He played for the Italian national team in the 1989 Intercontinental Cup. [1] In the 1989 European Championship, his two wins tied Paolo Ceccaroli for the team lead for the champions. [2] He was 13-3 with a save and a 3.71 ERA for Bologna in 1992. [3] He led the 1996 Serie A1 with 149 strikeouts, pitching for Caserta. In 1997 Serie A1, he led with 146 whiffs, 11 ahead of Joel Lono and former major leaguer Kirk McCaskill. [4] Unfortunately, the Italian Baseball and Softball Federation erased most of their historical stats section a few years ago, never returning the data to the public view.
Cossutta was 11-4 with a 2.11 ERA in 2001 at age 37. [5] He was 1-0 with a team-high 6.30 ERA for Italy in the 2001 European Championship, fanning ten in ten innings for the Bronze Medalists. Marc Cerbone was next on the team with a 3.86 ERA. He got the win over Raúl Arrondo and Spain. [6]
