Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Walter Yowell played five seasons in the Chicago White Sox chain in the 1950s.

In his first year, 1951, he was 18-7 and posted a 1.90 ERA for the Wisconsin Rapids White Sox to lead the Wisconsin State League in both ERA and wins. He remained sharp with the '52 Superior Blues at 12-4, 2.61. Among Northern League hurlers with 100+ innings, he was third in ERA. As he moved up the rungs, the results got worse: 10-5, 5.00 for the 1953 Colorado Springs Sky Sox and 7-14, 5.82 for the same club in 1954. He tied Don Rudolph and Norm Brown for 4th in the Western League in losses and was second with 127 runs allowed. He ended his career with the 1955 Sky Sox (0-2) and Lynchburg Cardinals (3-2) to bring his career record to 50-34.
