Biographical Information

Walt Lanfranconi pitched 14 years, from 1937 to 1953, two in the major leagues and 13 in the minors, losing three prime years to the military. He served in the European theater in the U.S. Army during World War II (1942-1945) (N&C). 

He was signed by the Chicago Cubs as an amateur free agent in 1937 by Clyde Engle. He pitched in two games (making one start) for the Cubs in 1941 and the entire season with the Boston Braves in 1947. He operated a service station in Barre, VT from 1951 to 1978. He died at his home from cancer at age 69 and is buried at Hope Cemetery in Barre.
