Biographical Information[edit]

Wachira Tongthong has pitched for the Thai national team. He won Silver with them in the 2005 Southeast Asian Games then was in the 2006 Asian Games. In the 2007 Baseball World Cup, he allowed 12 runs in 2 1/3 IP as the starter against the Australian national team when Thailand allowed a Baseball World Cup-record 26 games. He was better against the Silver Medal-winning Cuban national team, giving up 11 runs (8 earned) in 6 innings on 14 hits (3 homers, two by Yulieski Gourriel), 6 walks and 4 wild pitches. He also pitched two games in relief. Overall, he was 0-2 with a 20.90 ERA, third-best among the 8 generally hapless Thai hurlers. He had given up 28 hits (13 for extra bases) and 9 walks in 10 1/3 IP while fanning five. He led the tourney in runs allowed (27), earned runs allowed (24), wild pitches (7), hits allowed and doubles allowed (8) and tied teammate Chanatip Thongbai for the most homers allowed (4).
