Virginia State University was known as Virginia Normal and Industrial Institute in 1902-1930, Virginia State College for Negroes in 1930-1946, and Virginia State College in 1946-1979. The school has competed as an independent in baseball since 2020, as the CIAA does not have enough participating members to sponsor the sport. Virginia State primarily competes in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, but the conference does not sponsor baseball as of 2018.
